We meet on the first and third Monday of the month from 2.30, usually at my home.
As we are a discussion group we normally aim to have one main theme for each meeting.
Members take it in turns to lead, with a subject they have chosen, often based on an article from a
French newspaper or magazine. This is usually circulated at the previous meeting so that we have time
to look up relevant material to contribute. We cover a variety of subjects, from Piaf to politics and
wind-power to wine. Unfamiliar words and expressions are gathered through our reading and from each other.
We also subscribe to an excellent magazine La Vie Outre -Manclie, which is available for members to borrow,
and which contains a great amount of stimulating material relating to French life.
There is often time for a crossword, and of course general chat. It is not as serious as it sounds. We are a
friendly group of Francophiles, many of whom have been meeting regularly since the branch was founded. As you
see, apart from speaking the language, we enjoy any opportunity to indulge our tastes for French food and wine,
at home or on a visit to La belle France.
We would welcome two or three more members. Please contact me if you are interested in joining us.
