“When a man is tired of London he is tired of life
for there is in London all that life can afford”
Dr Samuel Johnson
The Explore London Walking 4 is a new group that was formed in May 2007.
The aim of the Group is to travel to London and explore on foot a specific area of interest interspersed with
coffee, lunch and tea breaks. We aim to walk between 3 and 5 miles in total.
What makes the walks particularly interesting is the sharing of knowledge that each member has of London.
We meet on the first Thursday of each month and so far we have been extremely lucky with the weather, although
the organiser arranges alternatives should the weather be inclement.
Our first walk was organised by Geoff R who gave us “A Taste of Theatreland”. It is surprising that although
all of us had been to the theatres in London our knowledge of the history of the Theatre buildings was scant.
The second walk was the “Central London Parks” also organised by Geoff R. This walk was very different from the
first and we appreciated how lucky we were to have such lovely parks in the centre of our capital city.
On our last walk organised by Geoff H we visited the grounds of Chiswick House followed by a walk along the Thames by Strand on the Green.
The October walk organised by Jackie is “Ripperland”. I hope the above gives you a flavour of our Group.
