Besides taking turns to host a tasting session, we have enjoyed guided tours of Lamberhurst and Denbies vineyards, Lurgashall Winery, RidgeView Wine Estate and Vinopolis in London. We have also had a number of guest speakers to our monthly meetings. Another venture has been to record the Wine Club sessions from the Channel 4 ‘Richard & Judy’ shows and watch them together, while tasting the six recommended wines.

In 2005 the U3A wine groups combined for an outing to Waddesdon Manor, where we visited the wine cellars, which are modelled on the private cellars at Château Lafite Rothschild. The groups have also enjoyed two suppers together, with a tutored tasting each time.

During our group’s monthly meetings we have tasted wines from many different countries and regions, made from a wide range of grapes and we hope we are becoming more discerning as a result. The group members have become friends and socialise together, particularly if there is an opportunity to enjoy a glass!
