Our walks are usually between 3 and 5 miles, with longer ones in the summer. Most are fairly local, though some are a little further afield and we round off the morning with refreshments at a nearby hostelry, if walkers wish. The number of members coming on the Thursday walks has increased to the point where the group is now full.

Please note Winter walks start at 10:30am and Summer walks at 10:00am and that walkers take part entirely at their own risk.

2012

26th January Horton Country Park - approx 3.5 miles
Meet for a 10.30am start in the main car park of Horton Country Park (about 7 miles from Fetcham). At T junction, after Tesco’s in Leatherhead, turn right, then left at the large roundabout, onto the A243, signed to Kingston, Hook and Chessington. Arrive in Malden Rushett, pass the Shy Horse pub on your right and turn right at the first traffic lights, into Rushett Lane, B280, signposted Epsom and Horton Park Children’s Farm. At the next roundabout, turn left, signed to West Ewell and Chessington, with a brown sign for Horton Country Park. Straight over the next roundabout, following the brown sign, then left into the main entrance of the Park. The car park is on the left, in bays round a large open space – park anywhere here..

The walk is flat and is mostly good under foot and is a repeat of the walk we followed in November 2008.

Refreshments afterwards, if required, in the Shy Horse, Malden Rushett

23rd February Oxshott Heath & Esher Common - approx 3.8 miles
Meet for a 10.30am start in Sandy Lane car park, Oxshott (about 5˝ miles from Fetcham). Take the Cobham Road, past the Yehudi Menuhin School. Once in Stoke d’Abernon, turn right just over the railway bridge, opposite The Old Plough pub, into Blundel Lane. This becomes Steel’s Lane and continue on this road until you come to the main road in Oxshott – the A244. Turn left here into Warren Lane, pass Oxshott station on the left and the road becomes Copsem Lane. Take the next left turning by a coal tax post into Sandy Lane. The car park is about 100 yards along on the right, under a height barrier. Care – there are several car parks along Sandy Lane – we will meet in the one nearest Copsem Lane.

The walk is mostly flat with a few short, easy inclines. We have walked part of this route before.

Refreshments afterwards, if required, in The Old Plough, Stoke d’Abernon, which has recently reopened after extensive refurbishment.

22nd March Wisley – Common, Gardens & Airfield - approx 4 miles
Meet for a 10.30am start in Ockham Common Boldermere Car Park. (about 6 miles from Fetcham). Follow Lower Road through Bookham to Effingham. Turn right into Effingham Common Road to the T junction just past Effingham Junction Station. Turn right here into Forest Road, then almost immediately left into Old Lane. Follow this winding road, past The Black Swan on your right, towards the A3. There are 2 large car parks on the right before the main road – park in the second one you come to – the Boldermere car park just before the A3 (not the Pond car park).

The walk is a new route. It is mostly flat, with a few undulations and we will have good views of RHS Wisley Gardens and part of the disused Wisley Airfield. In order to make it a circular walk, we will need to walk by some busy roads for a short stretch.

Refreshments afterwards, if required, in the Sir Douglas Haig, The Street, Effingham

Please note that walkers take part entirely at their own risk.

If you are in doubt as to whether a walk will take place due to inclement weather please contact Jo & Ernie between 8.30am and 9.10am on the day of the walk. Thank you.
