Our walks are usually between 3 and 5 miles, with longer ones in the summer. Most are fairly local, though some are a little further afield and we round off the morning with refreshments at a nearby hostelry, if walkers wish. The number of members coming on the Thursday walks has increased to the point where the group is now full.

Please note Winter walks start at 10:30am and Summer walks at 10:00am.

2010

22nd July Albury Heath and Blackheath - approx 4.25 miles.
Meet for a 10am start at the Albury Cricket Ground car park., (about 11 miles from Fetcham). Take the A246 towards Guildford. Turn left towards Newlands Corner onto the A25, signposted Dorking/Shere. At the Silent Pool junction, turn right onto the A248, signposted Godalming, Albury. Where the road bends sharp right, before coming into the village, turn left (almost straight on) into New Road. Follow this road for nearly half a mile until you come to Sandy Lane on the right where the Cricket Ground will be seen. Turn right into this lane and park in the car park on the right.
The walk will take us over part of Albury Heath to Blackheath, then on to Farley Green and Brook. It is undulating in places with a few hills and stiles. It is a little more challenging than some and we have walked a small part of the route before, though most is new. Many parts will have shade from trees if it happens to be a hot day, though some are open.
The walk to be followed by a picnic (weather permitting) at Newlands Corner (just 2 miles away). Please bring your own refreshments and something to sit on.

26th August The Wey Navigation and Basingstoke Canal - approx 5 miles
Meet for a 10am start in Sanway Road, Byfleet, (about 9 miles from Fetcham). Go through Cobham, turn left onto the A245, Portsmouth Road, and then straight over the Painshill roundabout, signposted A245 Woking. Straight on at both the traffic lights, and at the next roundabout – still on the A245. Then turn first left into High Road, signed Byfleet village. Follow this road round to the right, past some shops and at the end of a parade of shops, turn left by bollards, into Brewery Lane. Follow this road as it curves round and the 5th road on the left is Sanway Road. It is very near St Mary’s Church – you will see the spire. There is space for car parking along the left hand side of this road.
The walk is easy and is just about flat, with slopes up to the bridge crossing the M25. It goes along the towpaths for most of the route, though has a fairly short stretch along a busy road, where fortunately there are good pavements. We have covered a small part of this walk before, in August 2008.
Refreshments afterwards, if required, at the Inn on the Lake at Silvermere Golf Club.

23rd September Norbury Park - approx 4.5 miles
Meet for a 10am start in the car park of Bocketts Farm, Young Street, Leatherhead. Entrance to the car park is at the top of Young Street, pass the first car park, driving down to Bocketts Farm (park at far end of the car park, away from the farm).
The walk has a few gentle inclines, and it is mostly quite good underfoot. We will pass Norbury Park House, the Sawmill, Druids Grove Lookout and Crabtree Cottages. It is similar to the walk we did in May 2006.
Refreshments, if required, in the Bocketts Farm tea room.

NB - winter walks are usually a little shorter than summer ones and start at 10.30am

28th October Ockham Common - approx 4 miles
Meet for a 10:30 start in Ockham Common Boldermere Car Park. (about 6 miles from Fetcham). Follow Lower Road through Bookham to Effingham. Turn right into Effingham Common Road to the T junction just past Effingham Junction Station. Turn right here into Forest Road, then almost immediately left into Old Lane. Follow this winding road, past The Black Swan on your right, towards the A3. There are 2 large car parks on the right before the main road – park in the second one you come to – the Boldermere car park just before the A3 (not the Pond car park).
The walk is a repeat of the walk we did in February 2007 (a different season this time!). It is mostly flat and we will see Chatley Heath Semaphore Tower, Bolder Mere and the disused Wisley Airfield.
Refreshments afterwards, if required, at The Plough, Orestan Lane, Effingham.

Please note that walkers take part entirely at their own risk.

If you are in doubt as to whether a walk will take place due to inclement weather please contact Jo & Ernie between 8.30am and 9.10am on the day of the walk. Thank you.
